Over the next few days I am going to talk about some of the great communities in Pelham Alabama. But first I would like introduce you to the city, itself. The City of Pelham was incorporated July 10, 1964. It is a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama located in Shelby County - one of the fastest growing counties of Alabama. According to the latest population data Pelham has approximately 21,699 people living in this area.
Location
Pelham is located at 33°18′16″N 86°47′5″W33.30444°N 86.78472°W (33.304581, -86.784620) in the foothills of Oak Mountain State Park. Situated in a valley, you can see Oak Mountain on one side and Pelham Heights, which separates Pelham and Helena, on the other side. US Highway 31 runs through the middle of the valley and provides an ideal location for many businesses. There are 3 industrial parks in Pelham which provide stable employment to some of the people of the city. Because Pelham has 3 exits off I-65 it provides a great stopping place for people who work in Birmingham and Hoover as well as well as those traveling north and south on I-65.
Climate
The temperature is usually mild winters and hot summers!
Schools
We have 5 great schools in our city:
Valley Elementary is located on US 31 has a new addition and teaches students K – 2nd grade,
Valley Intermediate is located on Highway 33 and teaches students 3rd – 5th grade,
Riverchase Middle is just up road toward Riverchase and teaches students 6th – 8th grade
Pelham High is located on the mountain and is a landmark for the city, teaches students 9th – 12th grade.
Linda Nolen Learning Center is located on Highway 35 and serves students with special needs in self-contained classrooms. The students’ ages range from 3 – 21.
Tomorrow I will discuss the restaurants, sports and fun stuff that Pelham has to offer.
Stay tune…until tomorrow.
